Ways to help reduce plastic!

Reducing plastic consumption is something that is on the mind of most people – it is definitely on the mind of everyone at O’Canada Soapworks!

You probably heard that when the Corona Virus first put us all into lockdown that the planet rejoiced and started repairing itself – the air and water all over the planet was cleaner!

However, you may have also heard that plastic consumption sky-rocketed, re-usable bags were no longer allowed in grocery stores meaning everyone was back to using plastic bags and the shelves were being wiped clean of single use plastic masks, which were then sometimes not properly disposed of.

Now that the restrictions are easing and everyone can begin to see the light at the end of the extra-long tunnel, it’s time to continue helping the planet and reduce the amount of plastic we are using. In this day and age it’s almost impossible to live a zero plastic life but remember, It’s not about one person doing one big thing … It’s about a lot of people doing small things that really make the difference!

Here are a few tips that have helped us reduce plastic!
Where possible we buy bulk, this help reduce packaging and if ordering online helps reduce the environmental impact of deliveries. All our hand-crafted bath products are available online in 300g, 500g and 1kg bags. We also sell bulk in our retail store, and have glass mason jars available if you do not want the plastic packaging (although it is recyclable!).

When shopping in our Canmore store, located in the heart of the Alberta Rockies, we allow you to bring your own bags – but no worries if you forget one, our paper ones are 100% recyclable!

We are also striving towards reducing single use plastic bottles, although this is a long journey it is something we are very proud of! So far we have a range of luxurious all-natural shampoo bars and a divine shaver’s bar – imagine how many plastic bottles you would save by switching!
